Well, by now we’re sure you’ve figured out which airline we’re really talking about! The one with bikini-clad air hostesses! Rings a bell yet? VietJet became controversially infamous for their supposedly racist and sexist marketing stunt of featuring models wearing bikinis and posing as flight attendants, ground staff, and pilots for their yearly calendars.
The airline founded by a billionaire woman entrepreneur has also gathered a lot of flak for its ‘onboard’ fashion shows, featuring models in bikinis, walking down the aisle! Imagine if our flight attendants put up a similar show every time we boarded a flight!

VietJet also puts up frequent ‘modeling’ shows up in the air! In 2002, they had 5 contestants from a local beauty pageant giving a performance mid-air. The airline was fined INR 55,000 for risking air safety. This year they did an encore with models parading down the aisle wearing lingerie, for the benefit of the national football team, which was on board to witness the show! Talk about impressing an audience and how!

The founder of ‘VietJet’, Thi Phuong Thao, has a completely different view of how her airline is projected and the concept is based on “empowering images in Vietnam’s conservative culture”. We’re sure many men and women in Vietnam love the concept of empowerment already! For now, let’s welcome VietJet and their vision of empowerment to India!
Here’s a glimpse of what happens inside the airline!
