Cricket fans have had their share of weird bowling styles. From Sohail Tanvir’s fake delivery action, to Muttiah Muralitharan’s facial intimidation, Shivil Kaushik’s spine-bending bowling and Lasith Malinga’s slinging action, we’ve seen it all.
But all that was back in the day. Now, it’s only Jasprit Bumrah who’s baffling commentators, viewers and batsmen with his style. That said, there might be a new bowler in line who can turn all the cameras towards him. And that’s UP spinner Shiva Singh.
In a video that’s making the rounds of social media, Shiva Singh can be seen doing the strangest delivery of all time. And although that might sound like an over-exaggeration, it’s true.
So, here’s how his bowling action during the CK Nayudu Trophy went down. The left-arm spinner took a short run-up, did a 360-degree spin and delivered the ball to the Bengal batsman. And as you might expect, the umpire, Vinod Seshan deemed it to be a dead ball due to that 360-degree spin part. However, since the bowler and his team-mates were convinced that it’s a legit delivery, the play was stopped to discuss the matter.

According to Indian Express, Shiva has defended his bowling style, saying that he has done it earlier against Kerala. He said,
“I use different variations in one-dayers and T20s so I thought of doing the same because the Bengal batsmen were developing a partnership. The umpires said dead ball, so I asked ‘why are you calling it a dead ball?’”
He further added that,
“I delivered this 360-degree ball against Kerala in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well, where it was fine. Batsman always go for the reverse-sweep or the switch-hit against bowlers. But when bowlers do something like this it’s deemed a dead ball.”
Netizens also engaged in a not-so-serious discussion to dissect this man’s bowling action, and draw some garba comparisons.

So, what do you think of it? Should it be considered a legal delivery or should he join Shiamak Davar’s dancing classes?
