Diwali 2018: Empire State Building in New York, Burj Khalifa in Dubai lit up to mark festival of lights

While the Empire State Building in New York lit up in orange, Burj Khalifa in Dubai projected ‘Happy Diwali’ on its structure.

Diwali, the festival of lights was celebrated with enthusiasm by Indians around the globe. To celebrate the festival of lights, two of the most prominent skyscrapers in the world – the Empire State Building in New York and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai – were lit up in special colours.

This was the first such celebration of Diwali at the Empire State Building. Singer Jay Sean and Miss America 2014, Nina Davuluri, were present for the ceremonial lighting.

In Dubai, the world’s tallest building had a special message and artwork projected on it. The LED projections on the building were part of the special 10-day Diwali celebrations in Dubai, which also featured this popular clip of a Dubai Police marching band playing the Indian national anthem.

This is not the first time, both these buildings have taken part in the celebration of Indian events. In August, both iconic buildings were lit up with the Indian tricolourto mark Independence Day. The Burj Khalifa also celebrated Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary this year with a tribute to him on October 2, his birth anniversary.
