Since I was little, upon acquainting with any bald men I have noticed, that they are super rich. Even in movies, Hollywood is spilling with hunks with a shiny head. In addition, some of the world’s most successful entrepreneurs face suffer follicle challenges. Here’s why influential people like Dalai Lama, Jeff Bezos, and The Rock are all bald:
Bald Men Are Often Seen As More Successful
According to the 2012 study by UPenn, Bald men are thought to be relatively more successful and intimidating. Researchers put photos in front of respondents to report on which ones they found more attractive. Each time, there were two photos of the same person with and without a shaved head, to compare. Consequently, most participants chose the bald versions as more attractive.
Participants also said that the bad men seemed to be an inch taller in height. Yet, when it came to partial balding, not many respondents were fans of it. Patches of hair and bald spots made them look weaker and ungroomed.
The lead researcher Albert Mannes, claims that “In U.S. society … shaved heads are often found on men in traditionally masculine professions, so dominance may emerge through stereotypical associations with these figures.”
However, not only do bald heads suggest wealth and intimidation, but they are low maintenance and bold hairstyles. Hence, the first impression a person sporting it gives is of: ‘I don’t have time for unnecessary crap.’ Especially considering all the military men, boxers, and sportsmen who shave their heads.
Seth Godin talks about baldness in a similar regard. He has been bald for more than 2 decades of his life. In the Wall Street Journal, he explains: “I’m not saying that shaving your head makes you successful, but it starts the conversation that you’ve done something active.”
This Isn’t The First Time That A Study On Bald Men Was Conducted
Now, it could be argued that Mannes, himself is bald enough to possibly hold a research bias. So the results pertaining information from 59 different subjects, can’t be entirely reliable.
So if you need more convincing, it might help knowing that there have been multiple other studies before, with similar results. The University of Saarland in Germany conducted one with 20, 000 participants. It concludes that bald men are not only see as dominant but also more intelligent and wiser.
It was also believed by many scientists, that bald men perhaps had more testosterone. Later though, the idea was dismissed because testosterone is not a direct cause of hair loss. It is caused by the hormone DHT.
Many Men Have Thus Removed Their Hair On Purpose
Mannes himself, conducted the study in the first place because he saw that people were treating him differently after he shaved his head. Men with shaved heads are said to look 4 years older than they really are. Therefore, they seem much more masculine than their hairy head, peers.
“Instead of spending billions each year trying to reverse or cure their hair loss, the counterintuitive prescription of this research to men experiencing male pattern baldness is to shave their heads,” concludes Mannes.
The men who, at one point, were willing to spend billions to cure their hair loss are now reconsidering. Researchers like these are convincing them to just shave it all off.
